MK I to MK V AH2174 Spitfire Reproduction Spade Grip (Cont pg3 No 36)

Here we have a Spitfire reproduction spade grip. This one of the best repros I have come across, its a one off and someone has spent allot of time getting it right.

The gun button depresses as it should although the safety ring is fixed. The brake lever is alloy and has been drilled correctly with slots added for the brake cable. The main body has a very realistic appearance with thre part number showing. This grip was used by Spitfires only MK I to MK V. The body even has the slots cut into it as per the original.

For display purposes its hard to tell apart from the very rare and expensive original.

Pearl Harbour Film prop Flap (pg1 air)

Many many years ago our Replica Spitfire was used in the Film Pearl harbour, to simulate battle damage they made aluminium plates to go on the fuselage.

All the special effects were done at Pinewood studio.

Here is one of those plates with simulated bullet holes. Why was a Spitfire in Pear Harbour Film , the answer is they showed scenes from the Battle of Britain representing an American Eagle Squadron.

Michael Bay was not to interested in accuracy as the aircraft all had RF markings which in fact was from  the famous 303 Polish Squadron. I was on the film set during filming quite an eye opener Michael Bay decided mine did not have enough damage and proceeded to take a hammer to my new shiny canopy!

No eagle squadrons were actually involved in the Battle of Britain although there were nine American Pilots serving in the RAF. Regardless its a nice wall hangar.

Our Spitfire was painted as RF-M in the film and Ben Affleck sat in the cockpit..

There were two aircraft painted with these markings a flyer and our replica as clearly they were not allowed to simulate bullet holes in a flying Spitfire.

There are pictures on the internet one particular one shows two aircraft together marked RF-M. You can see mine on the right with four Prop blades with the flyer on the left.

Shown under our Spitfire without the battle damage and painted in the correct scheme for a MK IX this aircraft toured many shows in the UK and is the only running static ever built with a working Rolls Royce 27Ltr V12.

The wooden wonder the Mosquito a British twin-engine two-seat aircraft The Mosquito had a frame of wood and a skin of plywood, and it was glued and screwed together in England, Canada, and Australia.  Designed in 1938 and entered service in 1941.

As a night fighter, the Mosquito downed more than 600 Luftwaffe planes over Germany and as many V-1 missiles ( over England and the English Channel. As a bomber, it proved able to carry twice the bomb load for which it was designed. The Mosquito had a maximum speed in excess of 400 miles (640 km) per hour and a range of more than 1,500 miles (2,415 km) with a 4,000-pound (1,816-kg) bomb load.

Its original armament included four .303-calibre machine guns and four 20-mm cannons, all firing through the nose. The Mosquito served as a bomber, fighter, night fighter, high-altitude fighter, and photo-reconnaissance .

Camera Gun Harmonizer (No 20 pg 1 Gun)

Good condition camera gun harmonizer a  beautiful optical Instrument in stainless steel. Used by armourers to harmonise the guns with the gun cameras. This was slotted into the camera through a panel on the wing.

Why did Supermarine design the Spitfire with machine guns instead of cannon? Would cannon have been a more effective weapon? - Quora

Shown above a Hurricane having its guns harmonized to converge on a single point this varied from between 200 yards to 400 yards depending on the Pilots preference. Once this was achieved the camera gun would then be adjusted to focus on this point using this gadget.

WWI RFC Wheel (No. 26 pg 1 UC)

This is a superb piece from WWI over 100 years old its an original wheel from the first military aircraft to fight in the skies over the Western Front. Its an extremely well made piece and alot of thought has gone into making it strong enough to withstand the impact of landing. Made by Palmer complete with its original wheel bearing. In use it would have had a cover, usually canvas, to reduce drag and improve its aerodynamic qualities.

This particular wheel seems to have an unusually large number of spokes and is very heavily built so may be from one of the larger types operated.

Repro Flap Valve for Spitfire Panel (Cont pg6 No 19)

These reproduction flap levers are a vast improvement over the cast alloy ones we had previously.

They are perfect copies of the visible section of the flap valve and are completely machined from steel by hand.

They contain a piston and a spring so that they snap crisply up and down as in the original. I am confident there is not another reproduction of this quality currently being produced.

They have a nice heavy feel to them and will complete your Spitfire panel to the highest standard.

Vultree Vengeance Throttle (Cont pg1 No 2)

The Vultee A-31 Vengeance shown under was an American dive bomber of World War II, built by Vultee Aircraft. A modified version was designated A-35. The Vengeance was not used operationally by the United States, but was operated as a front-line aircraft by the British Royal Air Force, the Royal Australian Air Force, and the Indian Air Force in Southeast Asia and the Southwest Pacific.

This peace carries a HT code which is the manufacturers stamp for the Vengeance however Its quite hard to ID exactly where the peace goes as pictures of the cockpit are hard to find . Having a friction plate (Fully working ) this usually applies to the throttle and if you look at the black lever top left in the picture below it does look similar to the throttle lever.

German Panzer II Tank Track Link Ardennes (pg1 SAS )

Here we have a track link from a Panzer II Tank it was found in the Ardennes from the German invasion of France in 1940.

The Panzer II Light tank was the second German tank to enter mass production during the period of German rearmament in the 1930s. Unlike the Panzer 1, it had always been intended to use the Panzer II in combat, but not to the extent that eventually happened. A combination of slow progress on the development of the Panzer III and Panzer IV and the unexpectedly rapid expansion of the Panzer forces from 1936 meant that the Panzer II was the most important German tank at the beginning of the Second World War, and still the most numerous at the start of the offensive in the west in May 1940.

The Germans won their most significant victories with these generally un-regarded light tanks, and suffered their defeats with the more famous heavier tanks.

The full designation of the tank was the PanzerKampfWagen II or Armoured Fighting Vehicle II. This was abbreviated to Pk.Kpfw II, PzKw II or Panzer II. It also received the Ordnance Department designation SD Ktz 121 and the codename LaS 100.

The Panzer II was similar in layout to the earlier Panzer I. Like all German tanks the engine was at the rear, with the drive wheels at the front. The turret was offset slightly to the left and carried one 20mm cannon and one 7.92mm machine gun. The 20mm gun could fire high explosive or amour piercing rounds, so the Panzer II did have a limited ability to fight other tanks.

Vultree Vengeance Rudder Pedal 3 (Cont pg2 No 3)

The Vultee A-31 Vengeance was an American dive bomber of World War II, built by Vultee Aircraft. A modified version was designated A-35.

The Vengeance was not used operationally by the United States, but was operated as a front-line aircraft by the British Royal Air Force, the Royal Australian Air Force, and the Indian Air Force in Southeast Asia and the Southwest Pacific.

The A-31 remained in service with U.S. units until 1945, primarily in a target-tug role.

By the time that Britain had received large numbers of Vengeances, its opinion on the usefulness of specialised dive bombers had changed.

As the Battle of Britain and operations over North Africa had shown the dive bomber to be vulnerable to fighter attack, it rejected the Vengeance for use over Western Europe or the Mediterranean.

It was decided to use the Vengeance in the Burma Theatre to carry out dive-bombing operations in close support of British and Indian troops in the jungles

Reproduction Spitfire Rocker Gun Button (No 32 pg1 Arm)

These are all metal reproduction Gun buttons fitted to all the cannon armed Spitfire Mk's from Mk V onwards. It has taken a long time to source these as its an extremely complicated piece to make. The originals are just impossible to source and I have never seen one for sale other than fitted to an original grip. This button was fitted to all cannon armed Spitfires and it allowed the pilot to use the cannons and MG's separately or all at once. This allowed them to make the best use of the very limited ammunition the Spitfire could carry.

The safety lever moves as it should and the button will depress up and down although it does not depress in the middle.

They will fit our reproduction or original  AH 2040 grips which were designed for the single firing button button. This being the case they will not fit an original cannon Spitfire grip without modification as they are a few mm wider than the original buttons and the spacers are a bigger diameter.

Harvard Gunsight Sun Screen (No 32 pg1 Gun)

This is a piece I have never seen before from the part numbers and inspectors stamp it appears to be from a Harvard. It looks to be a sun screen for a gunsight as it has green tinted glass. It folds up and down. The Harvard was used both for  gunnery training and in actual combat  by several air forces including the RAF. Famously an Australian Pilot shot down a Japanese Zero in 1942 the aircraft shown lower left is preserved in the Australian War memorial museum.

The curve of the mounting matches the MK II reflector Gunsight and the two holes match the later Ace maker gyro Gunsight. Its certainly a rare and possibly unique piece. The Harvard was also used offensively

The Harvard was used as an advanced trainer in WWII to train fighter pilots before graduation to Spitfires.

The inspectors stamps have N 154 inside a circle the part numbers all start with 49.

The (N) inspectors stamp = Noorduyn (UC-64 and Harvard) The Harvard part numbers is 49

Because of the value attached to them (especially the money packs), they were collected on the crew members return.  Mid 19th Century Cordite Powder Bucket (pg1 SAS)

Here we have a mid 19th century Royal Navy powder bucket.

"Made of a cork frame and painted, with leather handles.

These were used by the powder boy or powder monkey who manned naval artillery guns as a member of a warship's crew, primarily during the Age of Sail in ships like HMS Victory.

His chief role was to ferry gunpowder from the powder magazine in the ship's hold to cannons, either in bulk or as cartridges, to minimize the risk of fires and explosions The function was usually fulfilled by boy seamen of 12 to 14 years of age.

Powder monkeys were usually boys or young teens, selected for the job for their speed and height.

They were short and could move more easily in the limited space between decks and would also be hidden behind the ship's gunwale, keeping them from being shot by enemy ships sharpshooters.

These powder monkeys held no official naval rank on the ships that they sailed on.
